Parliament Square is not Tahrir Square
Laurie Penny has published a remarkably ill informed piece over at the New Statesman today. Ordinarily, I would have described it as “disappointing” but to do so would overlook the spectacular decline of the Staggers in recent years. Penny writes:
How does this end?
And so Pakistan’s descent into chaos continues to gather pace this morning with the news that another opponent of the country’s blasphemy laws has been assassinated. Shahbaz Bhatti, minister for religious minorities, was gunned down in Islamabad while travelling to a meeting. The Dawn reports:
Gaddafi has little to fear from ICC
The UN Security Council resolution referring the situation in Libya since 15 February to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is, of course, to be welcomed. But I don’t suppose Muammar Gaddafi will lose much sleep over resolution 1970, adopted unanimously last night.
“We call them the nutters, because that’s what they are”
And again! Hizb ut Tahrir holds yet another rally in London and is, for the third consecutive time, decisively rejected by ordinary Muslims.
Al-Jazeera reports:

Pity the Islamists; the rug has been pulled out from under their feet.
There is a lot of debate at the moment about what the fallout from the Middle East’s uprisings will mean for the region. Is this the start of an Islamist uprising or the birth pangs of a more liberal and pluralistic Arab world?
Dictators’ Justice
What are the chances that dictators such as Mubarak and Gaddafi will stand trial? See my piece in the new print edition of Standpoint.

Should we be ‘going to extremes’?
Tina Rosenberg, an American journalist with a new book to plug, makes a passing reference to my Policy Exchange report, Choosing our Friends Wisely, in a new essay for Foreign Policy magazine. The crux of her piece repeats the hackneyed wisdom of Robert Lambert and Jonathan Githens-Mazer.
