You are here:   Criminal Gangs > Gangs, Girls and Grooming: The Truth

Often giving the girl a mobile telephone as a "gift", the pimp is then able to track her every move by calls and texting, which eventually will be used by him to send instructions as to details of arrangements with punters. The men sell the girls on to contacts for around £200 a time or as currency for a business deal. "I was always asked why I kept going back to my pimp," says Sophie, "but they flatter you and make you think you are really loved. I thought he was my boyfriend until it was too late to get away." Another tactic of the pimp is getting the girl to despise and mistrust her own parents in order that he can achieve total control over her. The pimps routinely tell their victims that their parents are racist towards Asian people and that they disapprove of the relationships because the men are of Pakistani Muslim heritage, not because they are older. Some of the parents I met were racist, and some had developed almost a phobia against Asian men, fuelled by the misinformation and bigotry trotted out by racist groups in response to the pimping gangs.

The Leeds-based Coalition for the Removal of Pimping (Crop) supports the families of children caught up in sexual exploitation networks. Crop is understandably reticent about commenting on any issues concerning the race or religion of child abusers and pimps. As far as it is concerned, we should not focus on one particular ethnic group because the problem is about men's abuse of children. Its research earlier this decade found that the vast majority of the children groomed are white and the majority of perpetrators of Asian origin. "Society seeks to condemn female sexual activity, and culturally within the statutory sector and community the victims are seen as asking for it," says Crop's Rachel Loise. "The perpetrators are the last to be condemned. Prosecutions are rare, and sentencing is not severe enough."

Unfortunately, the reluctance of the various anti-child abuse campaigns and charities to engage openly with the fact that, in the north of England, the majority of men involved in child-grooming criminal gangs are Pakistani Muslim means that racist organisations such as the BNP hijack the issue.

"The fact that these particular gangs are made up of Pakistani men is significant but not in the way racists would have us believe," says one child protection expert who asked not to be named. "While the BNP would have us believe that abusing white girls is an endemic part of these men's culture — which it absolutely is not — the truth is that these men are aware that the police do not want to be accused of racism in today's climate."

In 2004, Channel 4 withdrew Edge of the City, its controversial documentary made by Annie Hall that depicted parents trying to stop groups of young Asian men grooming white girls as young as 11 for sex. It had been seized on by the BNP as a party political broadcast.

Colin Cramphorn, the then Chief Constable of West Yorkshire, joined groups such as Unite against Fascism in calling for the documentary to be withdrawn. Channel 4 complied, saying that the issue was not censorship but timing because of the proximity with the local and European elections. But many argued at the time that the delay in transmission had strengthened the case of the BNP.

I fear it is too late for England. You owned so much of the world for so long now you don't even own your own country. I hope your demise is a lesson for other countries that still have a chance.

these people have different values and social ethics , they view white western girls and women as easy pickings to be used and abused. Our politicians and police have been frightened of addressing these problems, they are all to blame and should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves {why did our forefathers fight in 2 world wars } to see this cancer in our society

I think that these people should serve at least 10 years in jail. They should have their assets seized and used to pay for the support and counselling for their young victims and their families.

@Anonymous "In fact it's beyond belief that in 21st century Britain, after everything Britain fought for in 2 World wars, this is the way of thinking of British community." It is unbelievable. It simply should not happen. And in England! Nuke them.

I think some of the people in these forums are very unfair to a mainly law abiding community. In fact it's beyond belief that in 21st century Britain, after everything Britain fought for in 2 World wars, this is the way of thinking of British community. I am a British Pakistani and you should know from the surveys that British Pakistanis are more proud to be British than any other community. So when our silent majority (like 99%) read about this handful of scum that exist in our community we are enraged, we are more enraged by the British authorities who brush these issues under the carpet, ignorance never resolved anything. The problem should be dealt with head on, this is what all of us want, we want maximum sentences for these perpetrators, yet we are always made the scapegoats. You consistently read of papers like the Daily Mail saying xyz did not mention they were of Pakistani origin enough, that's just really clever, persecute us all, teach us all a lesson for the doings of a few scum balls, persecute us, but don't ever mention Churchill again, because clearly you are everything he was not. Whilst you're at it, start thinking about the ethnicities of Jimmy Saville and other famous TV personalities, and of the multitude of priests, more recently DJ Neil Fox, and God knows how many other white people who are paedophiles and ask the question why the media does not refer to them as 'white middle class men', whereas it refers to this scum as 'Pakistani/Asian men'. Shame on what the present British society has become, shame on you for being cowards in not being able to protect the innocents of society and making the rest of our majority community the scapegoats of your own failures. And carry on with this persecution because let me tell you frankly we are sick of this racism anyway, and I assure you it is not the scum people like those groomers or the weirdo jihadist’s that will be going anywhere soon, it is people like me with MBA's and PHD's that are the ones looking to leaving this country for good and heading somewhere that really does uphold the values of Churchill.

It only shows that people are more afraid to be *labelled* racist than to *be* misogynists... Shame, shame, shame of those who justify their misogyny on their attempt of 'not being racist'. The fights against racism and misogyny should go hand in hand, not one against the other.

i recently saw an asian man groom a young girl in a pub. it was all obvious. he checked her mobile, he had bought her beer, which she was not keen on, he pressed her for information about her family. what can we do in such events as members of the public ? i called the nspcc for advice. they told me to go to my local GP practice for some information.

There are two levels at play here: First the reaction to women within Islam, which sees them as second class citizens; second the fact that non-Muslims are seen as infidels without morals, and so easy game. Both of these tenets might lead some Muslim men to put those strict traditional values before those of British law. This should not be ignored. Also Asian men is somewhat misleading, because to my knowledge no Indian or Chinese men appear to be part of these rings. So we should be more specific about this.
