Tory Legal Line-up Unveiled

The Conservatives have now unveiled what we must take to be their front-bench legal line-up if they win the General Election.

Dominic Grieve is confirmed as shadow Justice Secretary. He no longer has to double-up as shadow Attorney General, a job now taken by Edward Garnier.

Their appointments are to be welcomed: both QCs are well respected among the judiciary. Indeed, it is hard to see who else could take these sensitive posts in a Conservative government. And it will be good to have an Attorney General in the House of Commons once more, an aspiration that Labour can no longer achieve.
