OK, that was fun...so now, for Friday afternoon historical, here's an absolute jewel resuscitated and just released on DVD by Glyndebourne.
On Such A Night is a 37-minute movie dating from 1956 and directed by Anthony Asquith. It's about an American tourist who sets off to visit the South Downs, but becomes fascinated by the Glyndebourne bus, or a girl climbing aboard it, and asks the taxi driver to follow it... It includes vintage footage of Glyndebourne itself, extracts of Le nozze di Figaro and appearances by the likes of founder John Christie, designer Oliver Messel and producer Carl Ebert.
Below is the trailer and you can order the whole thing from the Glyndebourne shop.
