Stop the Ground Zero Mosque

Opposition to the the unbelievable proposal to build a mosque and Islamic centre at Ground Zero in New York, the site of 9/11, is gathering pace. The idea - beyond anything the satirist Chris Morris could dream up - is a completely serious one, and will leave most people speechless.

But speechlessness is not enough. There is a demonstration planned for June 6th, but for those of us around the world who rightly consider this an affront, there is a petition going to Mayor Bloomberg which you can sign here

Dave W : I totally disagree. It is a gross affront: this is not about freedom of religious practice but about one of the worst disasters in USA history. A large number of people (some were UK citizens) were killed in 9/11, in the name of Jihad. They were not killed by Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, but by Islamic Fundamentalists. This is another example of the West's, and Christianity's, generosity and tolerance towards an aggressive and totalising faith, being abused, and it is an insult to the bereaved.

OK, why is it an affront. Muslims in downtown New York didn't attack the World Trade Center. The US rightly recognises freedom of religious practice. If Muslims want to build a mosque, and they have the cash why not? This is sheer bigotry.
