Under one banner: Margaret Thatcher was a divisive figure, but she had a steely resolve worth saluting

I shouldn’t be a supporter of Margaret Thatcher. From a working class, Liverpool-based family and also gay, there isn’t a lot I have in common with herby way of upbringing and personality; but there is one thing that does draw me to her support. I’m a soldier; and the way she took on the might of Argentina in 1982 remains one of the greatest chapters in our country’s recent history. She was our first and only woman prime minister. She was defiant in her fight against union action and she was astute in the protection of the United Kingdom. There has never been a politician, let alone a prime minister like her, and I’m sure nobody will ever again have the balls she did in that office.
