There you go — ridiculing and diminishing. It's what's wrong, basically. People see a strong woman-and they want to crush her...
What?
You may think feminism is "the new black". I happen to think it's a lot bigger than that. And as a feminist, who has personally experienced misogyny in the Twittersphere — I applaud the Twitter silence. And furthermore...
Oh my goodness! Furthermore!
Furthermore — I applaud the new restrictions on the Twitter abusers — the trolls, as we call them. I think it's important that we fight back, as women. We join together, as women, and say — Up With This We Will Not Put!
Up with what, Emily?
You know. All the misogyny. In the language and everything...You know the ugly one who doesn't wear make-up? Who goes on telly — whatsername? I can't stand her really —
Mary Beard?
She got bomb threats! And rape threats and everything!
That's horrible.
Because she's a WOMAN, Tilly! That was her only crime. She's a woman. Who DARES not to be pretty.
If she cut her hair. Put on a bit of mascara...
That's not the point!
What is the point, then? What are you getting at? People don't like her — because she's quite annoying. You said so yourself.
All right-but what about that other woman? Who everyone hates. With the little husband...Oh God...Bercow. Sally Bercow. Are you telling me that wasn't misogyny?
Did she do the Twitter Silence?
Well, I don't know.
Did you?
Well I did — or I was about to. But then — I just really wanted to voice my support, you know. About the silence. And share — that.
Did she?
Who?
Caitlin Moran.
Hmm? Well I presume so. I've no idea. By the way — you know the sale's on at Whistles. Want to come? What are you doing later?
