More convictions today in the ‘airliner bomb plot' which led to all those restrictions being placed on liquids being carried on board aircraft. The Associated Press reports:
Adam Khatib was convicted Wednesday of conspiracy to murder for his role in the plot to mount suicide attacks on planes bound for North America in 2006.
The 22-year-old Khatib was accused of working with Abdulla Ahmed Ali, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison in September for leading a team which planned to down at least seven flights in simultaneous attacks.
Prosecutors say that Khatib has been prepared to help Ali although they acknowledged he may not have known all details of the plan.
Significantly, the BBC reports that the trial judge acknowledged this cell was controlled from Pakistan.
It underscores the ongoing need of our mission in 'AfPak' - and the naivety of those who say we should cut and run.
