An Apocalyptic Note
No, not Iran but Fragonard. Reading this piece I mused (as they might have said in the eighteenth century) about how Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin might be all that signified our lost world.....coupled with tapes of the South Bank Show, increasingly a monument to one old man's vanity. Does any one, amidst all the gush about Melvyn Bragg, spare a thought for the younger people whose creative paths are effectively blocked by the habit of rich old men hanging on long on our screens long after it is seemly. Can't he just go away quietly and write a novel, or vote on some obscure amendment in the Lords? Fair do's as they say in Australia.
